A Murky Kings Court
We are the royal escort of Seamus, a sea horse king. As an escort, we are his protectors and are suited up as such. Seamus is 10,000 years old, and we have been living with him on the bottom of the sea. We are murky, we are barnacle covered, we are ensnared in all manner of seaweed, fish netting, and other such ocean bottom flotsam.
We are also cheap foam armor, sponge painted to look old. The red feathers of our Helmets have been replaced with half inch mattress foam cut into sea-like shapes. We wear a Roman inspired man kilt, made from cardboard and painted to match. We could use a better pair of shoes to go with it all.
The Horse is surrounded by a gang of horse herders. A combo of Seahorse biology, Greek myth, Mermaid love all with a sprinkling of Oprah sensationalism thrown in for good measure.. The costuming of the procession would consist of a few distinct variations, all picking up the big seahorse themes, and construction techniques.
Flag Bearers - Leading the way and announcing our arrival they set the stage for what is to come. Plastic trumpets in hand.
Regular Army - Pleasing the crowd and judges with their surprise gifts, choreographed shenanigans and pregnant bellies. Swords, shields, helmets...all with the seahorse army emblem and construction details.
Horse Drivers - Driving our Seahorse friend are the Horsemen. The cart consists of a driver (Poseidon?) , in charge of puppetiering his seahorse , and two centurion pushers.
and most important-
The Ladies - Our horse may be on its inaugural birth voyage, but it is the ladies that always steal the show at the mermaid parade. Loosely inspired and connected to the Roman centurions, the ladies would be Athena inspired, white gowns, flowing robes and some truly stunning headgear.
Unifying the costumes would be all manor of Greek and Roman garb.
Men may be pregnant warriors, and woman may be elegant beauties but there is much more to come...
